Note from the "Ozark Heritage" book: "Andrew D. 'Bud' was a Baptist preacher
and used a horse and buggy to go to church.  Sometimes he would ride his horse.
It was no surprise to him when he came out to go home, to find ink on his
buggy seat or saddle as the boys would play pranks on him.  He always took
it in good humor.  One Halloween, they took his buggy wheels off
and tied the buggy up in a tree."

Mary Armendia Hoodenpyl
Alvin Napolean Barber was a son of Mary A. Hoodenpyl Barber
& Eugene Joseph Campbell Barber.
The following information from his U. S. Social Security
application of December 29th, 1936:
Name:  Alvin Napolan Barber Born Sept. 8th 1898
Place of Birth:  Whitwell, Tenn, (Marion County)
Mother:  MARY ARMENDIA HOODENPILE
Father: Eugene Joseph Campbell Barber

Note: This is another source stating that Mary's middle name was
Arminda/Armendia.  Information provided by Dee King.

*Mary Easterly Notes:
"Last heard from Pearl Wyrick she lived in Sanger, CA.
Grandmother said there were only 18 children of
Robert and Delilah.
Some would say Grandmother's name was Armanda, Arminda
or Armendia.  Since Uncle Alvin gave Armendia in his
application, (Social Security) we will leave it at that.
 We called her Mary Amanda."

**Mary Easterly states there was no other son!

+ All so marked entries were submitted by Mary Easterly.
Mary we are extremely appreciative for your sharing this
information, along with the pictures.
I apologize for taking so long to get it on line!

The following photo shown on my
 Hoodenpyl Unidentified Picture's Page
has been identified by
Carolyn Carr Zimmerman

"In the unidentified pics section, there is a photo of a
man and woman and 11 daughers.
Well, Mom used to talk about our kin, they called him,
'Bobby Honey'... Robert Hoodenpyl.
He and his wife had 13 daughters and lived between
Cartwright and Daus, in the Sequatchie Valley (TN).
Mom said that they were the prettiest girls in the valley."

"When a dry goods store proprietor heard that
'Bobby Honey' had 13 girls, he told him that if he
would bring them all in at one time, he would give them
each a straw hat.  And he did!"

Bullet

Again, Carolyn, we thank you for your marvelous
contributions to this site!
Indeed these girls are a pretty lot!
Robert & Delilah's daughter Elizabeth
probably died an infant.

Surely there are descendants out there who can share
birth, death and marriages for some of these children.

(Note from Mary Easterly: "This is the Janeway Place in the
Hicks Chapel Community of Marion Co. (Tn).  Eugene and Mary
lived there for a while.  The home place is about 7 miles
above in Sequatchie Co. Tn.
If I could see the original of this, I could probably identify
them.  I know Grandfather and Grandmother standing
above the children.  I think the one next to Grandfather is
Florence.  She is tall.  The small children I think are their
grandchildren.  Alvin is standing with the two girls.  I can't
identify them until I see the original."

Mary Easterly - Dec. 2002
"This picture hung in our living room of the
old home place.  We bought the place when
Grandfather Eugene Joseph died.
Grandmother Mary lived with us.  My father,
Ira Barber, gave it to his brother Alvin.
He was the youngest son and really a
lot like Uncle Julius."

"My Uncle Alvin Barber said that Julian (Julius C.) Hoodenpyl
use to sell farm machinery and ran a government still."
