Hoodenpyl Bible 5

THIS BIBLE
Is the Property of
Philip Hoodenpyl &
Jane Hoodenpyl

New (and wonderful) information to share:
Philip & Jane Hoodenpyl Family Bible.

Holy Bible
Thanks to an email from Dallas Lacy, a descendant,
we now have tangible proof of name spellings, dates and
other pertinent information in regard to our
Hoodenpyl
lineage.
I add these pages to my sites, Dallas, with much
appreciation.  Our family owes you an eternal debt
of gratitude.
Excerpt from your letter as to your descendancy:
"I am descended through Philip and Jane Hoodenpyl's
last-born child, Jane.
Jane Hoodenpyl became the second wife to
John Billingsley (they were my great-grandparents).
Then my grandmother, Evalista Jane Billingsley, was
the last-born child of John and Jane Hoodenpyl Billingsley.
 Evalista Jane married John Swafford
(also of Pikeville, Bledsoe Ct. TN) and my mother
Billie Swafford (married Beri Lynn Lacy)
was the last-born, tenth child of
Evalista Jane and John Swafford.
So I come down from the last-born child of
grandparents, great-grandparents, and
great great-grandparents."

Dallas also wrote:
"Unfortunately, the pages are not in good condition
and one of the double-sided sheets has the upper part
torn off and lost for good.  But there is, nevertheless,
quite a lot of information on these pages despite the
poor condition.  After the death of my mother several
years ago, I found the four Hoodenpyl Bible pages in
an envelope kept in a drawer at my mother's house.
Someone undoubtedly had torn these pages from
a family Bible...It looks as if there was originally
a middle page, now lost...."

Note: The name entries on the above page, and
most of those on the following pages, are
definitely written by the hand of Philip Hoodenpyl.

His first name is spelled with one "l" and last name

without an "e" at the end.   Henceforth, I will begin to
correct all my Hoodenpyl pages to reflect the changes.
These written entries concur with his signature on
the Indian Uprising story.

There's no doubt that Philip entered
the majority of the Bible entries.
The pages also reveal that Isabella
was Philip and Jane's oldest child.
Many of us have assumed for quite
some time, in error, that Sarah was the
first-born.

(Keep in mind that the Dutch tradition was to
name the first born son (Peter) after the Paternal
Grandfather and the first born daughter (Isabella)
after the Maternal Grandmother.
)

Also, contemplate the entry on P. 2:

"Eight Born unto Philip a Son
by Elizabeth Ray named
Ph: Hoodenpyl
born on Teusday 7 Jan 1817"

If you have information to share in
regard to this child and parental father,
please do write me.

Cousins...We now have proof as to
correct spelling of Jane's maiden name:
Rounsavall.
So, please do make the correction in
your research.  Since1980, I've seen
Rounsavall misspelled in multiple ways.
I trust that we of this generation, who
strive to provide accurate information
to leave for our future researchers,
take the time to make the correct
changes in our records to pass along.

~ A Final Thought ~
We have been extremely blessed to
have so many tangibles still surviving
in regard to our Hoodenpyl heritage.
As I advance in years and my research
efforts decrease, I want to tell you that
it has been a marvelous journey.
 Philip Hoodenpyl is a colorful
ancestor and researching his and
Jane's lineage has always brought me
much joy and satisfaction.
But, please know...
I could not have accomplished any of
it without all of you willing 'cousins'
who've opened your files and shared
your findings.  I wish I could meet and
thank each of you personally but,
of course, I can't.  But do know that
what you've shared has opened untold
numbers of doors for those so anxious
to discover their own roots.
I wish all of you well as you continue
to pursue all avenues at your disposal.
It's an eager anticipation, walking
those long roads to court houses,
archives, cemeteries, etc., but my,
what bountiful rewards await.
 Enjoy every minute of it!!
Thank you for supporting me and this
site.  May God bless you one and all,
Aletha
