Luke gave Revolutionary War pension deposition
for his brother Leonard (b 1759).
Date: 26 Sep 1834 Bedford Co. TN.

The following is an excerpt from the deposition:

"...a considerable Troop of the British & Tory's came through the country
up to Savannah River destroying the property of the Whigs as they came
on where his father had fled across the river with many others for safety.

It is at this place I next saw my brother Leonard engaged in fight with
the British & Tory's & shooting across the river at them. There he saw his
brother Leonard shoot at what he supposed to be a British officer & saw

after the gun fired several of the British run to him (the officer) & take
him off of his horse.  It was afterwards said the officers they was broken.
At this place Col. Marbury comes up with his troop of horse
& took prisoners...."

Francis, Tabitha & family lived in Augusta, GA on the
Savannah River during the remembered skirmish.

The father who fled across the river would have been Francis.
By the date of the deposition, we know that Luke was indeed in
Bedford Co. by 26 Sep 1834.

* Note:  Mary Ann reared her sister Sarah's children.

**Note: Lucas William & Drucilla raised the (five) orphan children of
his brother Leonard & wife Martha.  Martha was the sister of Drucilla.

Leonard was killed in a hunting accident and Martha died of Consumption.
According to the Ethel Cummins book, when Lucas William lay dying he said,
"I'm really not sick - I'm just like an old clock, I've run down."

***Note: Did Nancy & John marry into the Lowder family instead of
the Lander family.  Records are found in the Lowder lineage.

In regard to Samuel Lowder.  Tombstone reads "Samuel Lowder
son of Thomas & Elizabeth Lowder, husband of Nancy Marbry."
Samuel Lowder is buried in Lot #74 and the daughter of Samuel &
Nancy Lowder (Mary Frances Lowder Turner) is buried in Lot #76.
No marker for Lot #75.  This is probably Nancy's grave with no marker.
~Lowder information provided by Robert T. Marbury

In early spring 1853 (right after the death of Luke), Lucas William,
his brother Leonard & family, his sister Liza Marberry Gann
& family and several younger sisters migrated to Johnson Co. Illinois.

The following is an excerpt from "A History of Johnson Co. IL":
Marberry Family - Lucas William and Drucilla Daniel Marberry
came to Johnson County from Bedford Co. TN in 1853, with their
five young sons.  They staked out a 220 acre Land Grant tract
which they homesteaded, erecting the large double loghouse in
which they lived the rest of their lives.

Determining Elizabeth Bullen Marberry's Birth Date

1800 Montgomery Co. NC
16 - 26 years old
b 1774 - 1784
(using 1830 Census age, she was 10 - 20)

(born 1784 or prior to)

1810 Rowan Co. NC
26 - 45 years old
b 1765 - 1784
(using 1830 Census age, she was 20 - 30)
(b 1784 or prior to)

1830 Montgomery Co. NC
40 - 50 years old
b 1780 - 1790
(using 1830 Census age, she was 40 - 50)

(The 40 - 50 age grouping narrows the search.  If this box was correctly
marked, Elizabeth was born 1780 - 1784.)

By using the 40 - 50 age grouping we return to the
1800 Census.  She would have been 10 - 20 years old.

(Eliminate 1774 - 1779)

By using the 40 - 50 age grouping, we return to the
1810 Census.  She would have been 20 - 30 years old.
(Eliminate 1765 - 1779)

By using the 40 - 50 age grouping in the
1830 Census.  She was 40 - 50 years old.
(Eliminate 1774 - 1779)

  Elizabeth was actually born 1780 - 1784.
The 1800, 1810 Census show that she was born
on or prior to 1784 and the 1830 Census shows
she was born 1780 - 1790.

She would have been an extremely young bride, around 13 - 14
years when she married Luke.  Not unheard of!
