1783 in Rowan Co. NC when she married Thomas Biles (Jr.)

Thomas Served In Revolutionary War

He entered the service as a private in Rowan Co. NC in 1776,
under Capt. Hugh Montgomery of Salisbury, Capt. James Craig
near neighbour and General Rutherford commanding officer.

One question asked on the application:
"Where were you living when called into service and where have you
lived since the Revolutionary War and where do you live now?

Thomas' answer: "Lived North Carolina Rowan County in the
Jersey Settlement five miles above Salisbury & moved from there in
the year 1797 to Montgomery in the State of North Carolina on a
farm near the Narrows of the Yadkin River & near the Head of
Mountain Creek & continues to live on the same place ever since."

Question: Did you ever receive a discharge from the service & if so
by whom was it given & what has become of it?

Answer: By Capt. Hugh Montgomery & Capt. James Craig. I
never received a written discharge but verbaly which was the
custom in the back country."
