"(Benjamin) Rounsavill migrated from Hopewell township,
Hunterdon County,
New Jersey and established his home on the banks of the Yadkin near the
trading camp ford. It
is evident that Edward
Hughes, Isaac Feree, and
Rounsavill operated the first ferry crossings north of
the
Granville line for,
in September 1753, each of the three petitioned the newly established
Rowan County court for a license to keep a ferry over the Yadkin
River...
(Rounsavill) is probably of Huguenot origin...
Benjamin Rounsavill originated in New Jersey...."

Re: Research
My desire in creating this Rounsaval site is to prove
the parentage
of Mary Rounsaval who married Leonard Marbury.
It's my belief that Josiah and Sarah Conger Rounsaval were
her parents but no proof has been forthcoming.

Benjamin
1750 -1753 Benjamin and family migrated from
Hopewell
Township in Hunterdon Co. NJ to Rowan Co. NC.
The children of Benjamin and his first wife are unknown,
but two sons are
believed to be Josiah and David who received acreage from Benjamin in 1767.
No ideas as to when Benjamin's first wife died but
we know that he married
a second time to Margaret Enochs.

Benjamin Died
Benjamin died early May 1778. He left a sizeable
estate (for the times.)
The size indicates that it was not accumulated in a few short years,
but in an extended time frame. Written at the top of the Inventory
page:
"Devided Between the Widdow and the Heirs According to
praisement."

Josiah spelled his name
Rounsavall.
Born abt 1730, probably New Jersey, son of Benjamin
and his
first wife. Josiah and his brother David, received 230 acres each on
the
Yadkin River from their father 10 Apr 1767.
He first shows up in Rowan Co. NC records 25
Jun 1755,
where he, his father and others were involved in a riot.
In the early 1750's, Josiah married Sarah
Conger, daughter of
John and Zipporah Moores Conger of Rowan Co. NC. John Conger
had migrated to Rowan Co. about 1750 where he and his sons
eventually purchased land on both sides of Abbott's Creek. This land
now lies in Davidson County.

THANX
No research is accomplished without contributions from others.
I have many individual researchers who have, for years,
contributed to my genealogy files.
In regard to the Rounsaval researchers, I wish to thank
the following:
Richard A. Enochs
Betty
Miller
Barbara B. "Bebe"
Platt
Mark
Rounsavall
Vicki Rounsavall
Betty and Bebe are two of our first research
forerunners. I dare say their
findings have been the backbone of the Rounsaval lineage research
and all of our files contain somewhat of their discoveries.
"And he said to them all, If any man will come
after me,
let him deny himself,
and take up his cross daily, and follow me."
