BulletLena was the sister of my father and she died several years before my birth.  I was given the
scrapbook shortly after her daughter, Martha Posey Peachy died in 1961 because
I had inquired of

Martha's husband, Oscar Peachy, as to the fate of the book.  He gave it to me and I've treasured it since.

Lena's History

Lizzie Lena Summerhill was born 7 Nov 1873 in Clark County, Arkansas,
probably in the Bradshaw Community.  She was the oldest child of
William Clinton & Martha Jane Marbury Summerhill.

In approximately 1889, when she was about 16 years old, Lena began pasting items
inside a scrapbook.  Most of these items were articles from the local newspapers in
regard to community news about friends and relatives, but there's also a couple of
original notes.  She pasted poems, pictures and advertising cards from the era
magazines.  It's my estimation that the scrapbook covers the years from circa 1889
through World War I.

Lena married three times and the first marriage 8 Dec 1892 Clark County was to
Charles E. "Charlie" Ross, son of L.O. & L.E. Ross.  He was a deputy sheriff
and his swearing-in paper is pasted in the scrapbook.  Charlie was born 6 Sep 1867
and died 25 Jun 1895.  Lena and Charlie had only approximately 3 1/2 years together
before his death.   There was no issue by this marriage.

Lena married second 27 Feb 1898 Clark County, William Michael Bozeman son of
Jonathan L. & Cordelia H. Bozeman.  Cordelia was the daughter of Michael & Lucy A.
(Browning) Bozeman.
Michael Bozeman settled in Clark County in 1835 and built the old
Bozeman home that still stands about six miles west of Arkadelphia.
 I don't have
dates for William Michael Bozeman but he and Lena had one child: Willie Matt
Bozeman who married William Roy Hunt.  They lived in Texas and had three
children:  William R., Robert L. & Lena Juanita Hunt.

BulletNOTE:  This writer adores this old homeplace.  I live in Georgia but occasionally return to
Clark County, my birthplace.  One of my priorities is to visit the old Bozeman home.   May the
residents of Clark County  continue to recognize the worth of this magnificent structure and see that
it's preserved for our generations yet to come.
The history inside the house and out, is timeless.

Lena married third 12 Sep 1907 Clark Co. AR, Frank L. Posey and they had two
children: (1) Martha Posey b 30 Aug 1910 d 13 Apr 1961 buried Prescott, AR, DeAnn
Cemetery.  Martha married Oscar Peachy and they had one child.
Frank L. Posey had two girls by a previous marriage: Carl & Ola Posey.
(2)
Frederick L. "Fred" Posey b 18 Jun 1915 d 4 Apr 1960 buried Prescott,
DeAnn Cemetery.   Fred never married.

TombstonesLizzie Lena Summerhill Ross Bozeman Posey died 1 Feb 1926
in Prescott, Nevada Co. AR and is buried in DeAnn Cemetery.

BulletNOTE:  Lena moved to Prescott, AR between the years 1916 and the date of her death 1926.
My mother, Lillian Brewer Summerhill, related to me that my father,
Elbert Trigg Summerhill, Sr., took mules and a wagon and helped
move Aunt Lena to Prescott.  This was after my parents married in
1916.   They were at that time living in the Town of Arkadelphia and
moved to the country about 1930.

It's my pleasure to share this marvelous old scrapbook
because of its genealogy related content.  I've typed the
articles as written.
Some of the print is faded and some
completely rubbed off in places.

Members of Shiloh Baptist Church?

Can you identify anyone in this picture?
The lady, 4 girls & 2 boy to the right in front of the mule, is

Letha Summerhill Evans & family of Clark County and Arkadelphia, AR.
Prior to moving into the town of Arkadelphia, they attended
Shiloh Baptist Church.  Some of them are buried in the church cemetery!

I believe the time period to be around 1912.  This picture was found in the
effects of Zeffie Evans Ross after sh
e passed away in Arkadelphia in 1980.
Surely someone can identify the twins in the front row!
