Note: Clement used three spellings in regard to his
surname:
Burroughs, Burris, Burrows.
In North Carolina and Spotsylvania Co. VA, he used Burroughs.
In Fayette Co. KY, it was Burrows and in Gallatin Co. KY,
Burris.
Some of the later generations used Burrows.
Was Nancy Summerhill the daughter or sister of
Charles Summerhill, Sr.?

Migration History
A Clement Burroughs is shown on the 1787 Tax List of Prince Willliam Co.
VA
in the household of Mary Burroughs who I assume was his
mother. IF this is
our Clement, then he migrated to North Carolina shortly afterward. A
James
Burroughs is shown on the 1790 Island Creek District of Granville
Co. NC,
same District as Charles Summerhill Sr. The 1788 Granville Co. Tax
List was
used for this particular Census. Did Clement come south with James
Burroughs
or did he come to visit Burroughs relatives? Keep in mind that
during this
time period, the Warren and Granville Counties boundaries were
re-established
causing more confusion in regard to verifying residency.
It's my belief that Charles Summerhill's place of residency in Granville
Co.
fell within Warren County after the re-establishment, and he never moved.
Because of the limited number of records I've found for Clement, it's
my belief
that he was in North Carolina a very short period of time. He purchased
from the
Estate of Charles Summerhill (gun, bed, furniture, 2 heifers, etc.)
November
1793 in Warren Co. and is shown on the 1794 Warren Co. List of Taxable.
This estate sale purchase leads me to believe that Nancy Summerhill
was the daughter or a sister of Charles Summerhill Sr.

Clement and family haven't been found on the 1800 Census. His daughter
Eleanor
stated in later years that she was born 1808 in Virginia and Clement is shown
in
Spotsylvania Co. VA in 1810. That year or early 1811, the family began
their
migration to Kentucky where son Clement (Jr.) stated he was born 1811 in
Scott Co.
In 1818, son Absalom W. married in Henry Co. and in 1820, Clement and
family
are shown in Fayette Co. KY with the following listed in household: 1 male
under 10,
1 male 10 -16, 1 male 45+, 1 female under 10, 1 female 10 - 16, 2 females
16 - 26,
1 female 45+ and 34 slaves.
In 1830 they're found on the Gallatin Co. KY Census. An age grouping
was not
shown for Nancy so I presume she was deceased.
Clement is shown 60 - 70 years of age.
Clement
died June 1836 in Gallatin Co. per his estate papers.
